I had a go at recreating the PAL communicator from the TV series 'Firefly', with the goal of 3D printing it in an afternoon, as it was a 'Secret Santa' gift as part of the yearly tradition on the Replica Prop Forum. 
It was 3D modelled in solidworks and then the injecion mould style texture was applied as a displacement node in keyshot.
Whilst 3D modelling the different panels, I included common imperfections you would find in a lower cost injection moulding tool, such as obvious injector pin marks, tool split lines, shut offs and wear.
The prop is actually a real world item. It's intended use a personal alarm system worn by firefighters.
